Swapping $DOG on Bitcoin: questions with real answers

Why does my price expire after 35 seconds?

35 seconds is the venue's own validity window for a quote, and it is the only clock we put on the price. When it runs out we fetch a fresh price rather than let you sign against a dead one, and nothing is lost. There is a second clock, also the venue's and not ours: once the transaction is built you have about 30 seconds to sign, counted from the build, so that countdown is already running while you read the review. Both are explained in how to buy $DOG with Bitcoin.

Why does a swap take about 10 minutes?

Your swap settles as a real Bitcoin transaction, so it is final when a block includes it, and blocks arrive every 10 minutes on average. Nothing is wrong while you wait, and you can close the page; the swap completes without you. The whole path from quote to block is written out in how a Runes swap settles.

What am I actually signing?

One unsigned Bitcoin transaction, in a format called a PSBT. Before your wallet opens, this site decodes its bytes and shows you every coin it spends and every destination it pays, and the sign button stays dead unless four checks pass on those bytes. What is in one, and what we check, is written out in what is a PSBT.

How deep is the $DOG market here?

The live figure is at the top of this page. That is the entire depth behind $DOG on Bitcoin, which is thin, so the price moves with your size: every quote is priced for the exact amount you type, and the band between the two amounts fills as that size presses into the pool. What that means when you are the one selling: sell $DOG for Bitcoin safely.

Who fills my trade?

The venue splits each trade across the market makers serving the DOG/BTC pair, inside one atomic transaction. Today that is mostly DotSwap (On Nexus), the venue's own pool, and DogSwap, a market maker run by volunteers from the DOG community, the same people who run this site, and an independent maker can take a share too. The card names every maker and its share before you sign, and we refuse routes through pools too small to fill you.

Do you ever hold my keys or my funds?

Never your keys: signing happens in your own wallet, on your device, and no private key, seed phrase or signing power ever exists on our side. Never your funds: there is no deposit and no balance with us; your $DOG and your BTC move directly between your wallet and the pool, on chain. And never a blind signature: before your wallet opens, we decode the exact transaction and show what leaves, what returns, and what the miner takes. Anyone asking for a seed phrase is not us; the complete list of real channels is at verified channels.

Why does my wallet have 2 addresses?

A Runes wallet has 2 addresses doing 2 jobs: the bc1q payment address holds the BTC that pays fees, and the bc1p ordinals address holds the $DOG itself. The review screen names both, every time, so you can check them against your own wallet.

What does "not enough UTXOs" mean?

Your wallet needs spendable BTC, separate from the $DOG itself, to fund a swap transaction. Keep at least 10,000 sats in your payment address; when the only balance left is dust, Runes swaps fail with this message and it confuses everyone the first time. It catches sellers too, and the rest of the setup is in how to buy $DOG with Bitcoin.

What is $DOG, exactly?

A rune: a token that lives in ordinary Bitcoin transactions, etched in the halving block of April 2024 as Rune ID 840000:3, with a supply fixed on the day it was etched. It is not a coin on another chain and not a claim on a bridge. The short history, what a rune is, and why the Solana copy is a different asset: what is $DOG.

Was any $DOG sold, or kept by a team?

No. All 100,000,000,000 were created at once in the halving block and given away free to the holders of the Runestone inscription, 889,814 for each of the 112,383 Runestones, with no presale and nothing held back. The rules were argued in public weeks before there was a coin. The dated record, and where each claim comes from: how $DOG was born.

Is this financial advice?

No. This site quotes live prices, shows costs, and relays what you sign. It does not recommend trades, predict prices, or promise anything a market can take away.
